Guide to preparing for emergencies and facilitating diesel delivery

Hurricane season in Puerto Rico is already underway—it runs from June 1 to November 30—and at American Petroleum we are ready to support our customers during this critical period.

We are committed to helping you maintain your company’s operational continuity by facilitating access to fuel supplies in emergency situations such as storms, power outages, or unexpected weather events.

However, in order to provide you with fast and effective service, it is essential that your company also be prepared in advance. Below, we share a series of recommendations that can make a difference when time is of the essence.

What can you do to facilitate the delivery process in an emergency?

  1. Keep your account active

Having an active account is key. If you have not received deliveries in the last 12 months, we recommend that you contact your representative to update your information and confirm that everything is in order. This speeds up the process in times of high demand.

  1. Verify that your payments are up to date

Being up to date with payments avoids administrative delays when requesting fuel. If you have questions about the status of your account, we suggest checking it as soon as possible.

  1. Place your order as soon as a weather event is announced

As soon as a storm or weather event warning is issued, contact our team. The earlier you submit your request, the easier it will be to organize. Deliveries are subject to availability and are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

  1. Consider renting a portable tank

Having a portable fuel supply station at your company can facilitate access to service at critical times. This option is especially useful if you need to keep your operations running during an emergency.

In emergency situations, our operation focuses on serving essential service entities such as hospitals, dialysis centers, and response agencies first.

This may affect estimated diesel delivery times for other sectors. Companies with active accounts and requests made in advance will be served within our logistical capabilities and based on current demand.

Key recommendations for lubricant and fuel deliveries this hurricane season

  • Get to know your account representative and have their contact information handy.
  • Verify that your account is active (i.e., that you have received at least one delivery in the last 12 months).
  • Have all the information ready to place your order: gallonage, product type, exact address, hose feet, payment method, and contact information.
  • Under normal conditions, deliveries can be requested 24 hours in advance. In emergencies, we recommend doing so at least 36 hours in advance for better coordination, although the estimated service time is truly unpredictable during periods of high demand.
